What is an impacted tooth?

Impacted tooth is a tooth that has hindrance to natural eruption (breaking through the gums). This hindrance may be due to lack of jaw space, or the tooth is angled in such a way that there is another tooth in its direct path of eruption.

Wisdom teeth are typically associated with an impacted tooth because wisdom teeth are often the last teeth in your mouth to develop, and being in the very back of your jaw, there is often limited jaw space to allow them to erupt into occlusion.
